The Bethlehem Foundation is an evangelical Christian organization founded by Olnick Duverné and his wife, Rose-Mada Pierre-Louis. After receiving God’s call in November 2009, right after high school, the Lord appeared to me like a friend speaking to a friend: “If you truly love me, be the shepherd of my flock.” This terrible call frightened me because I didn’t want to commit to pastoral ministry. At the time, I was only 23 years old and had been leading the youth ministry at my church for three years. Since then, we have sent children in vulnerable situations to school every year, until 2019, during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the Lord appeared to us again, asking us to go to Trou-Gilot, one of the poorest communities in Haiti. Barely two years after our marriage, we created our very successful family business selling building materials. In 2021, under threats from armed gangs and after several attempts at quidnapping, we left everything behind to devote ourselves fully to the ministry in this very vulnerable community, which we did not even know before. More than 96% of the children in this community never go to school, do not have birth certificates, and their parents even forget their date of birth. My dear wife and I, a very committed woman of God, a woman of prayer and conviction, a young mother who cares for others, and who was responsible for the youth ministry in her church for more than ten years before our marriage in March 2018, devoted all our time to caring for her children, teaching them the Word of God, providing them with a hot meal, clothes, and shoes. We founded the Bethlehem Evangelical Church of Trou-Gilot in April 2021 and opened a Christian school on October 4, 2021, to teach them to read and write, but also to know God’s plan for their lives. In July 2024, to date, we have graduated more than a hundred young professionals from our vocational school, created especially for our children and for all young Haitians who cannot afford to finance their studies. Unfortunately, in August 2024, I left Haiti due to excessive gang violence throughout the country and after several direct attacks against my person. I went to the United States in search of a better life to feed more than a hundred sons and daughters still in our care in Haiti. My dear wife Rose-Mada is still there despite the persistent threats, with an honest and dynamic team; she is the administrator and co-visionary of the Bethlehem ministry in Haiti. Upon my arrival in the United States in 2024, the Lord asked me to continue our ministry here, and it was in New York City that we opened a new church “Bethlehem Foundation Baptist Church” about five months after my arrival in the USA. I must say this with all sincerity, as a visionary pastor of the Bethlehem Ministry, who received God’s call to a noble task at a very young age. The Bible says: Acts 1:8: “But you will receive power, after that the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be witnesses to me both in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” I have become convinced that the Lord did everything for a purpose; he did nothing by mistake or accident. We are not only witnesses to God in the desert of Trou-Gilot, Haiti, evangelizing vulnerable children, but we are also witnesses to this great and extraordinary God in New York, one of the largest states in the United States, evangelizing all nations, regardless of their origins.
